Unfair and unsubstantiated

In the immense excitement and joy stemming from my only pseudo-successful fishing trip of my life, I apparently chose to pay less attention to the rules.

It wasn't explained explicitly in the rules or competition, but it was generally understood between the Fisher Kings and For The House that the fish we catch and submit for the competition should be of legal size.

I've had two or three people comment now that the 7 bass I caught looked like Largemouth Bass rather than the Hybrid Rock Bass I thought they were.

It's well known in all my social circles that the reality I see in battle usually tends to give me a competitive advantage. So I'm not surprised I talked myself into seeing a different type of fish rather than the Largemouth Bass I actually caught.

According to Michigan Fishing Guidelines, the minimum size of Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass that is legal to keep is 14". Although this minimum size regulation sucks and is completely unfair and unsubstantiated, it appears as though the fish I caught were illegal and therefore cannot be considered as eligible for this competition.
Special Thanks to Feeling Entropy for leaving the comment that burst the bubble of the finest fishing moment of my life. We'd like to wish you and Hong the best of luck on your upcoming fishing expedition.

But I will keep that blog post up because even though I was doing something illegal, it still felt oh so right.

  1. the law is only the law if you get caught. normally you just eat the evidence before anyone can catch you!
